A CPG Media Case Study

 Alberta Coach is a family owned and operated charter transportation company in Southern Alberta, Canada.  They wanted to increase organic traffic to their site. The majority of their website traffic came from busrates.com, a paid online charter bus directory.

The Problem:

Alberta Coach was not receiving the desired amount of organic traffic to their website.

 

The Cause:

Alberta Coach had very basic content on their website.  It was useful content for a visitor that had already found their website, but it was not content that would get them highly ranked on a Search Engine Results Page (SERP).

 

The Proposed Solution:

The best possible solution was determined to be the creation of new content to place on their website. This would address Alberta Coach’s request to be appear more on SERPs.

 

The Process:

CPG Media researched and created new content for Alberta Coach’s website.  The article had to meet specific conditions to rank in SERPs.

The article chosen based on these parameters was ‘How far is Calgary from Edmonton, Banff, Fort McMurray, Red Deer and the Other Major Centres in Alberta?’

 Once the article was researched and written, it was placed on Alberta Coach’s website and optimized for search engines as described in the chart below.

The Results

The new article was published on March 18, 2016.  As the analytics for Alberta Coach’s website were only set up on February 19, 2016, reports had to be generated to work around this limitation.  To get the best representation of the data, reports were configured around two separate date ranges.

Report #1: Google Analytics Report of Organic Traffic Sessions February 18 – April 30, 2016 vs February 18 – April 30, 2017

The first report is a comparison of the organic traffic visiting the website in the seventy-two day period surrounding the article’s publication date. The date ranges were limited by the first day of analytics tracking, February 19, 2016 and the date the data was compiled, April 30, 2017.

The results breakdown for Report #1 is as follows:

Year over year, Alberta Coach saw a 71% increase in organic traffic to their website.

812 organic sessions in 2017
474 organic sessions in 2016

Report #2: Google Analytics Report of Organic Traffic Sessions March 1 – September 30, 2016 vs October 1, 2016 – April 30, 2017

The second report is a comparison of the organic traffic visiting the website in the first seven month period and the second seven month period following the article’s publication date. The compared ranges are March 1 – September 30, 2016 and October 1, 2016 – April 30, 2017

Alberta Coach saw close to a 20% increase in organic traffic to their website in the fourteen month period following the article’s publication.

The results breakdown for Report # is as follows:

Alberta Coach saw a 19.51% increase in organic traffic to their website.

2118 organic sessions in the second seven months
1771 organic sessions in the first seven months


Closing:

The Alberta Coach content creation project is considered a success. The new article increased SERP visibility leading to increased organic traffic to Alberta Coach’s website.
